Modern computer technology makes it possible to construct ceramic inlays on the computer and then carve it out of a ceramic block.

The cavity inside the tooth is photographed by a special camera directly inside the mouth. Before that the tooth gets covered by a special powder.

 

 

Advantages

The used ceramic material can be chosen in the exact colour of the tooth. By that good esthetic results are possible even if the inlay gets only inside the mouth after fixing it. With this system (and only with it) it becomes possible to manufacture inlays chairside.

 

Disadvantages

The CEREC Inlays (though now much better than some years ago) still don't fit as exact as other inlays. These Inlays are very expensive. They don't reach the top level esthetic looks of other ceramic inlays.
